Gilbert Anthony

Gilbert Anthony, 81, of Harrogate Tenn., (formerly of Chattanooga) died Sunday morning, Sept. 29, 2013, at Claiborne County Hospital following an extended illness.He was born to the late Tom and Lela Wheat Anthony of Lenoir City, Tenn. Mr. Anthony dedicated his lifes work to helping the underprivileged, disadvantaged and less fortunate.He was a Korean War veteran and retired from the U.S. Air Force. He was recreation director of Boys Club of Chattanooga, a program director of the Salvation Army of Chattanooga, and director of CADAS in Chattanooga. He established a private group of drug and alcohol recovery centers named Greenleaf Recovery Centers in the 1980s. He and his wife of 45 years, June Anthony, were Shaklee Products Supervisors for many years. He was an avid fan of the UT Vols.Mr. Anthony was of the Methodist faith.He was preceded in death by his wife, June Parrish Anthony; brothers, William and Tommy Anthony, of Lenoir City, Tenn.; sisters, Alice Anthony Griffin, of Atlanta and Martha Anthony Spence, of Roanoke, Va.He is survived by brother, Glenn Anthony, of Atlanta; son, Barry (Jeanne) Anthony Sr., of Ooltewah; daughters, Pam (Michael) Anthony Moon and Lori Anthony, of Harrogate, Tenn.; grandson, Barry Curtis Anthony (Keighty) Anthony Jr., of Chattanooga; granddaughters, Kimberly (Luke) Anthony Barton, of Knoxville, and Allison Moon, of Harrogate Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to United Way of Chattanooga at uwchatt.org.Graveside service to be held at 11:30 a.m.Thursday at Chattanooga National Cemetery with the Rev. Russ Fairbanks officiating.
