KimseyCORDOVA Alan Parks Kimsey, 55, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013.Alan was born Oct. 8, 1957. Alan is survived by his wife Carol "CJ" Casanova; mother, Estelle Kimsey; and brothers, Steve, Jim and Frank Kimsey, as well as all of his friends and coworkers.Alan was preceded in death by his father, Dr. C. Windom Kimsey; and his first wife, Janis Miles Kimsey.Alan was born and grew up in Chattanooga. He was an Eagle Scout with Troop 69, and graduated from The Baylor School in 1975. After completing two years of college, Alan joined the United States Marine Corps where he learned to navigate C-130 airplanes and aircraft maintenance. Alan applied these skills by going to work for Southern Air Transport and lived in both Algeria and Puerto Rico.Alan worked for Northwest Orient Airlines in Minneapolis for over a decade before moving to Memphis to work with FedEx. He had worked and lived in Memphis for the past 15 years. Alan fought and won a battle with lung cancer with the help of Dr. Ron Lawson and the West Clinic in Memphis.Alan had a generous soul, always putting others before himself. He dedicated a year of his life to bringing sight to the blind in Third World countries by joining the crew of the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital.Alan loved spending time in the great outdoors hunting and fishing with his father and brothers, as well as loving black labs. Alan was capable with his hands, a great problem solver, and one to be counted on to help a neighbor or family member. He had a gentle personality, and would not be heard saying a harsh word about anyone. Alan was an excellent cook and quite fond of exotic cuisines; the spicier, the better. There are many fond memories of him flipping ribs at the Kimsey Family Fourth of July Barbecues.
