Charles Burns

Jr.CLEVELAND Charles B. "Doc" Burns Jr., 71, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, in a Chattanooga hospital.He was of the Methodist faith. He played football, baseball and basketball at Lenoir City High School and was inducted into the Lenoir City High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2008. He received his BS degree in accounting from the University of Tennessee, graduated with a degree in law from the University of Tennessee and his L.L.M from George Washington University. He was a practicing attorney with the firm of Burns, Henry & Kirksey, P.C. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Southern Heritage Bank.Mr. Burns was the son of the late Charles Buford and Kate Burns. He was preceded in death by his son, Charles "Chuck" Burns III.He is survived by his wife, Kay Burns, of Cleveland; children, Richard "Rich" Burns, Lindsay Nicole Vest and husband, Mark, of Cleveland and Liza Frances Boykin and husband, Kevin, of Columbus, Ga.; four grandchildren, Ellie Iris Vest and Elijah Cooper Vest, both of Cleveland, Natalie Louise Boykin and Sydney Frances Boykin, both of Columbus, Ga.; one brother, Kenneth Burns and wife, Lynn, of Palm Harbor, Fla.; mother-in-law, Helen Green, of Calhoun, Tenn.; special friend, Jim Workman, of Cleveland; several nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 17, at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Rev. Skip White officiating.Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Jim Workman, Dan Cooke, Taylor Howard, Travis Henry, Bryce Kirksey, Max Borst, Ricky Butler and Chris Burns serving as pallbearers.Honorary pallbearers are the Board of Directors of Southern Heritage Bank.A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.We invite you to send a message of condolence and view the Burns family guestbook at www.ralphbuckner.com.
