Leonard Lorberbaum

DALTON Leonard Lorberbaum, 96, passed away Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at his residence after a long illness.He was the son of the late Isadore and Minnie Lorberbaum and was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Caroline Sadacca Lorberbaum, as well as his eight brothers and sisters.Leonard was born Sept. 15, 1917 in Brooklyn, N.Y. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania he enlisted in the United States Army and was later sent to Officer Candidate School where he was a commissioned officer, serving in Europe during World War II. After leaving the armed services with a Honorable Discharge, he stayed in the Reserves where he retired at the rank of Captain. Leonard got married in 1946 and moved to Dalton to work at Lawtex Industries where he worked until retirement as executive vice-president. He was a member of the Shriners and an active member of Temple Beth-El where he served as its president. After Temple Beth-El closed, he became a member of the Mizpah Congregation in Chattanooga.Leonard loved to read, but his true love after his family was golf. He had 3 holes in one, he won over 28 trophies, he shot his age at 81and was a member of the Honors Course, The Farm and The Dalton Country Club. He also belonged to the Georgia Seniors Golf Association where he played in their tournaments until he was 94.Leonard is survived by his children, Ralph and Jodie Lorberbaum, of Savannah, Ga., Henri and Debra Lorberbaum, of Dalton, Ga., and Stella and Mike McHugh, of Dalton, Ga.; grandchildren, Jennifer and Mark Kinzie, Scott Lorberbaum, Julie and Gianluka Lepri, David and Stephanie Lorberbaum, Lane Lorberbaum, Kim Lorberbaum, Cari McHugh and Michael McHugh; great-grandchild, Caroline Lorberbaum, as well as numerous nieces an nephews.Leonard will always be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.Services will be at 3 p.m. today in the chapel of Love Funeral Home.The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home from 2 to 3 p.m. today.The family ask that flowers please be omitted and that memorials be made to Emory University, 201 Dowman Dr., Atlanta, GA 30322, or to ones favorite charity.Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.lovefuneralhomega.com.Love Funeral Home, 1402 N.
