Evelyn Carter

JASPER Evelyn Carter, 86, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013 at Grandview Medical Center surrounded by her family.Born Feb. 16, 1927 in Richard City, Tenn., she was a member of First Baptist Church in South Pittsburg and worked for many years in the service industry at Red Food, Ingles and Western Sizzlin. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Lofton and Oma Carter; sisters, Jennie Ruth Carter and Jere Brewer.She leaves behind her children, Marty (Randy) White, Glenda (Pete) Brooks and Claudette Smith; former husband and father of her children, Claude Holloway; nine grandchildren, Billie (Kurt) Ross, Bobbie (David) Lipe, Jamie (Craig) Mears, PJ (Jennifer) Brooks, Patrick (Janet) Brooks, Kasie (Jason) Saylors, Stacy (Michael) Cleek, Michael Matthews and Mandy Matthews; thirteen great-grandchildren, Emily Payne, Rebecca Ross, Mitchell Mears, Danielle Lipe, Andrew Lipe, Micayla Brooks, Blake Brooks, Jill Brooks, Owen Brooks, Reese Saylors, Reed Saylors, Payton Bradford and Aydan Cleek; brother, Dr. JL (Susan) Carter, of Athens, Tenn.; sister, Joan Plummer, of Texas, Jamie Schaatt of Texas, Billie Burrows, of Bridgeport, Ala.; and many nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be conducted from the Jasper Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at 2 p.m. Central time with the Rev. Brad Bridgman and Bro. Kenneth Conaway officiating. Interment will be in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home today from 4-9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. Central time.The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the wonderful staff of Grandview Medical Center, the staff of Amedysis Hospice and special recognition to Dr. Karen Shepherd for the care of our mother.The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimers Association, Southeast TN Chapter, 7625 Hamilton Park Drive, Suite 8, Chattanooga, TN 37421 or the American Heart Association, P.O.
