Bill Porter

SPRING CITY James Fielding "Bill" Porter Sr., 86, went to be with his Lord Jesus on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013.Born in Dayton, Tenn., he was the son of the late Ralph and Gladys Brown Porter. Bill was a graduate of Rhea Central High School, attended Tennessee Technological University and graduated from The University of Tennessee College of Law. He was a member of the Tennessee Bar Association of Trial Lawyers. Bill was a practicing attorney for 30 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired as a Major in the Army Reserves JAG Corp. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of Rhea Medical Center, where he served as chairman of the board for a period of time. Bill was a former member of Red Bank Baptist Church in Chattanooga, former member of First Baptist Church in Dayton and was a current member of Wolf Creek Baptist Church in Spring City.Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Marie Porter, of Spring City; children, Jim (Sharon) Porter, Cheryl Porter (John) Wheeler, Patricia Porter (Alan) Filyaw and Mark (Cindy) Porter, all of Spring City; and 10 grandchildren.Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at Wolf Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Forgey officiating.Interment will follow at Porter-Ward Cemetery.Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the church.Vaughn Funeral Home, Spring City is in charge of arrangements. www.vaughn-funeral-home.com.
