Susan Bryan

Susan "Susie" Margaret Gelsthorpe Waterhouse Bryan, 87, died at her home on Lookout Mountain on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013. Susie was born in Winchester, MA and graduated from Wellesley College. She served on the boards on numerous organizations including the Baroness Erlanger Foundation, Mental Health Association, AIM Center, Association of Visual Artists, Episcopal Commission of Southeast Tennessee, St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Hunter Museum of Art, Tennessee River Gorge Trust and the Lookout Mountain Land Trust. Among others, she received the Joseph Johnson Award for Volunteer Service, Pilot Club's Community Service Award for Community Service, Women's Community Service Award and the AIM Lifetime Achievement Award in Mental Health.She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Dorothy Gelsthorpe; husbands, James F. Waterhouse and George S. Bryan; brother Edward Gelsthorpe and granddaughter, Susan Alison Waterhouse.She is survived by her four sons, Jim Waterhouse (Janet), Ed Waterhouse (Langhorne), Albert Waterhouse and Richard Waterhouse (Caleb); and her grandchildren, Mills Waterhouse, Amanda Waterhouse and Rachel Waterhouse. A memorial service will be held at Noon Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Lookout Mountain, followed by interment at Forrest Hills Cemetery.
