Lillian Smith

Lillian Smith, 84, of Hixson, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013.Lillian was born in Belle Ellen, Ala., and was a longtime resident of the Chattanooga area. She was a retired Register Nurse having worked with Memorial Hospital for over 25 years. Lillian was a longtime member with First-Centenary United Methodist Church. In her younger days, Lillian and her late husband were avid square dancers.Lillian was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, William Claude Smith Jr.She is survived by her four children, John (Vickie) Smith and Diane (Thomas) Wooten, both of Hixson, Susan Maliska, of Hayesville, N.C. and Cathie Carter, of Chattanooga; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Atterton and many nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, at the North Chapel.Services for Lillian will follow at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home chapel with Dr. David Harr officiating.Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. EDT on Thursday at Red Hill Cemetery, Whitwell, Tenn.The family would like memorial contributions made in Lillians name the Congregational Care at First-Centenary United Methodist Church, 419 McCallie Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37402.Please share your thoughts and memories at www.chattanooganorthchapel.com Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
