Dorothy Armstrong

Dorothy Harper Armstrong, 85, of Chattanooga died Friday, Sept. 20, 2013. She was born Oct. 27, 1927 in Chattanooga to the late Carl Harper and Gladys Martin.She was preceded in death by her husband Freddie P. Armstrong, Jr.; grandsons Jimmy Armstrong, Terry Armstrong and John Armstrong.Dorothy had worked for Rossville Federal Savings and Loan and First Federal Savings and Loan (now know as Am South Bank). She was a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church.Survivors include sons Jimmy (Jeanette) Armstrong and Larry (Brenda) Armstrong. She was nonnie to Kimberly Armstrong, Stephen Armstrong, Brandon Armstrong and Tyler Armstrong, David Armstrong, Gabriel Armstrong, Kara Armstrong, and Gracy Armstrong; honorary nonnie to Erich, Kristyn, Judah, Anna, Jonah Haws and Kristina DeFriese. Nieces Linda Weatherly and Jan Kinard; uncle Foster Mathes and several cousins also survive.Dorothy had many good friends and neighbors at the Fontainbleau Apartments where she had lived for over 30 years. She retired from the apartments after 18 years of service as assistant manager.Funeral services will be held today at 5 p.m. in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Reverend Ronnie Dotson officiating.
