Thomas Bond

Thomas Kendrick Bond, of Chattanooga, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013. He was 93 years old.Tom was born in Philadelphia, Pa., where he lived with his mom and dad, Ursula and Thomas and his brother, Dick. He graduated from Upper Darby High School where he was an outstanding cross country and track runner.He attended the University of Pennsylvania before beginning his career as an insurance underwriter and sales manager. Tom served in the Army Air Forces in England during World War II as Chief Ball Turret Gun Mechanic for the 390th Bomb Group. After the war, he moved to Chattanooga to manage The Underwriting Division of the Accident Department of Provident where he worked for 36 years. Tom met and married Wilma, which he said was his most important accomplishment and they were married nearly 45 years before her death.He became a member of First Baptist Church in 1954 and served many years as president of the Steadfast Class. Tom was a devoted husband, loving father, and doting grandfather and was known by generations for his ready smile.He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma; and daughter, Patricia Richardson.Tom is survived by his son Gary Bond; daughter-in-law, Janice Bond their sons, Jeremy Lane and his fianc Sarah Gallop and Samuel Bond; Jeremys sons, James and Jackson; son-in-law, Don Richardson and Don and Trishas children, Brian Richardson and his children, Alisha, Carman, Todd and Alex, Jamison Hurt and her husband Todd and Donald Richardson and his wife Deanna and son Ethan; and several nieces and nephews including his special niece Lisa Burns. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 26, at the North Chapel and again on Friday from noon to 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Chattanooga.Services for Tom will follow at 1 p.m. on Friday at First Baptist Church of Chattanooga, 401 Gateway Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37402, with Dr. Thomas Quisenberry and Rev.
