Thelma Booth

Thelma Mae Booth, whose life was anchored in faithfulness to her Lord Jesus Christ, answered the call of her Redeemer on Tuesday, April 1, 2014. Only a few weeks shy of her 95th birthday, Granny Thelma, as she was known to all who knew and loved her, was born Thelma Mae Curtis on April 18, 1919. The eldest daughter among 13 children, her parents were the late James C. and Pearl Lawson Curtis. At the time of her passing, Granny Thelma was survived by two sisters, Louise Roberts, Fort Oglethorpe, and Barbara Yerbey, Ooltewah; and two brothers, Bill Curtis, Sr., Cedar Bluff, Alabama, and Don Curtis, Sr., Chattanooga. Granny Thelma is also survived by her two loving daughters, Evelyn Booth McBride (Jerry) and Charlotte Booth Spinden, both of Ringgold; grandsons Darren McBride, Chattanooga, and Stephen McBride, Ringgold; and granddaughter Christi Curtis, Ringgold. Granny Thelma also leaves behind four great-grandchildren, Katherine McBride, Sydney Debusk, Jake Debusk and Riley Spoon; as well as several nieces and nephews. Retired from Curtains and Crafts, Granny Thelma was never happier than when she could pass hour upon hour in her beloved garden. Her favorite days were spent with her hands deep in the soil and the sun touching her back. When the weather would chase her indoors, Granny Thelma could be found making any number of hand-crafted treasures from dolls and decorations to her famous vegetable soup. Services celebrating Granny Thelmas life will be held in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Thursday. A lifelong member of the Church of God, Granny Thelmas former pastor, the Rev. Clayton Privett, will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of the donors choice. Visit www.heritagefh.com to share words of comfort to the family and view the memorial tribute. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 East Brainerd Road.
