Wendell Brown

Wendell Brown, 88, died Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Life Care Center of Rhea County. Wendell was past president of Dayton Rotary Club, 25-year member of the Dayton City Council, past mayor 1999-2005/president vice mayor of Dayton, 25-year member/past chairman Dayton city school board. AU.S. Army Air Force Veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict/awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and four Air Medals, 60+ year member First United Methodist Church/ former chair of the official board, member Dayton Lodge #512 F&Am/32nd degree Mason, member VFW and American Legion Post 100, past chairman of the American Red Cross, past Cub Scout leader, past foreman of Rhea County Grand Jury, past secretary of the Rhea County Election Commission, owner of Johnson Hardware/ past president of the Mid-South Retail Hardware Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Camolyra Swafford Brown; brother, Benny Swafford Brown; sister, Helen Brown; grandson, Cole Green; great-grandson, Tucker Brown; first wife, Barbara Brown. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Green Brown; children, Robert (Bobbye) Brown, of Frankfort, Ky., Mark (Sheila) Brown, of Parker, Colo., Mike Green, of Dayton, Sissy (Chuck) Owens, of Soddy-Daisy and Kent Green, of Dayton; brother, Frank Brown (Marilyn), of Knoxville; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Visitation 11 a.m.-1 p.m. today at First United Methodist. Funeral at 1 p.m. today at the church with the Rev. Kenneth Pierce officiating. Burial in Buttram Cemetery with military honors.
