Betty Cook

Betty C. Cook, 70, of McDonald, Tenn., passed away Sunday, April 20, 2014, at her daughters residence in Knoxville, after a long illness. She was born on July 18, 1943, in Bryant, Ala. Betty was a 1960 graduate of Central High School, a 1964 graduate of Tennessee Temple University and received her masters degree from the University of Chattanooga. She touched many lives as a teacher at Ooltewah High School until she stayed home to raise her children and then as an eligibility counselor at the Department of Human Services until she retired. She was an avid reader and loved gathering together with "The Girls" a collection of friends and women who had retired from her office. She was a member of Mineral Park Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Albert Reeves and Mary Rebecca (Stewart) Reeves as well as her brothers, Loyd and Ray. Survivors include her husband, Erskine Larry Cook, of McDonald; two daughters, Amy Rosine (Doug), of Knoxville, Carol Cook, of McDonald; three grandchildren, Sarah, Abby, Grace; brothers, Clyde (Jean) Reeves, of Ooltewah, Lavon Reeves, of LaFayette, Ga.; sister, Virginia (Al) Clayton, of Soddy-Daisy; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Mineral Park Baptist Church, located at 7134 White Oak Valley Circle, McDonald, TN 37353, with Rev. Ronald Jones officiating. A graveside committal will be held at 1 p.m., Friday at Lakewood Memory Gardens, East. The family will receive friends from 57 p.m. Thursday at Mineral Park Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Missions Fund at Mineral Park Baptist Church, 128 Bluebird Lane, McDonald, TN 37353.
