Roberta Carter

Roberta Crawley Carter, 91 of Hixson died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014. She was born Jan. 29, 1923 in Soddy, Tenn., to the late Walter and Elizabeth Penney Crawley. Roberta was a member of Soddy Church of Christ. She attended Red Bank Elementary and graduate of Central High School, class of 1940 and The University of Chattanooga, class of 1966. She had worked with American Lava/3M, Civil Service Army Air Corps, was a math teacher at Chattanooga High for 19 years, and retired from Hixson High School after 3 years in June of 1988 for a total of 22 years as a teacher. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Genevra Coop, Katherine Black; and grandson, Brian Carter. Survivors include her husband, Glenn Carter; children, David (Nina) Carter, Larry (Mary Lynn) Carter, Paul (Carolyn) Carter; sister, Juanita Crawley Howard; grandchildren, Kristen Carter, Chris Carter, Lauren (Adam) DeGardeyns, Scott Carter, and Alan Carter; great-grandchild, Austin Carter. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014 in the funeral home chapel with Minister Bill Greer officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and 10-11 a.m. Thursday at Legacy Funeral Home.
