Ellen Rice

Ellen Loomis Burton Rice, 87, of Hixson, passed away Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014. She received a degree in education from the University of Virginia, was active in local, state and national politics and was a world traveler. Ellen was of the Episcopalian faith. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Pauline Burton; husband, Luther F. Rice; and granddaughter, Jennifer Scott. Survivors are her daughter, Ann Ehmling, of Hixson; grandson, Walter W. (Michele) Ehmling, of Knoxville; and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 2-5 p.. Sunday, Feb. 2, at Lane Funeral Home.
