John Compton

John Luther Compton, 81, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014. He was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga and North Georgia areas and was of the Church of God faith. He was a self-employed brick mason for most of his life and was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all that knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Earl and Ida Mae Compton; son, David Compton; brother, Raymond Compton and sister, June Buffington. Survivors include his children, Marie Compton of Ringgold, Ga., John Compton Jr. of Chickamauga, Ga., Randy Compton, of Ringgold, Ga., Curtis Compton of Chattanooga, Audry Compton, of Tiftonia, Tenn., and Ralph Compton of Rossville; brother, Paul Compton, of East Ridge; sister, Mildred White, of Rossville; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2014 in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel with Rev. Alfred Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will begin receiving friends after 2 p.m. today and prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home. Arrangements by W. L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Homes, Fort Oglethorpe.
