Lionel Turner

Lionel Joe Turner, 81, died Jan. 24, 2014 in a Chattanooga hospital. He was born in Wayland, Ky. He came to Chattanooga area around 1950. He was a machinist retiring from DuPont after 40 years. He served in the National Guard. As a youth in Kentucky he joined the Church of Christ. He lived much of his life in the Chattanooga Valley area eventually settling in Ringgold. He was the first Dad Advisor for Lookout Valley DeMolay. He was a 60-year member and Past Master of Lookout Valley Masonic Lodge #673 F&AM and Quitman Masonic Lodge of Georgia #106 F&AM. He was a 54-year member of Scottish Rite of Free Masonry. He was a member of Chattanooga York Rite Bodied, Alhambra Shrine of Chattanooga, #423, and Shrine's International. Turner served as a Lexington Shriners Hospital for Children Board of Governors Emeritus Member. He was a member of the Lookout Valley Chapter #483 O.E.S. and past patron of Summerville Chapter #434 O.E.S. He was chairman of the Share America Foundation and member of Half Century Club. His focus in life was encouraging youth and creating opportunities for them to thrive in the face of adversity whether through finding medical assistance or encouraging them in music. The family will welcome friends to a concert Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Ringgold Depot, 155 Depot St., Ringgold, GA 30736. celebrating his life featuring area gospel music performers. A funeral service will be Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 12:30 p.m. at the Heritage Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Oglethorpe with Minister John Cupp and the Rev. Billy Dean officiating. Visitation with family is from 10-12:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Dailey Hills Cemetery. Turner is survived by his wife Maureen, his son, Tramble Tom Turner, his son, Lewis Smith, his daughter, Carol (Steve) Ruiz, his granddaughter Capri (Jared) Gardner, an aunt, Lois Gault, several nephews, nieces and cousins.
