Allen Greene, after 94 years of a life well-lived, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, in Auburn, Ala. He was born on April 12, 1919, in Chattanooga to the late Clarence and Margaret Broskoski Greene. Allen was also preceded in death by his wife, Reba; his sister, Leota Knight; his brother, Buford; and his son, David. Allen married Reba M. Lowry on June 30, 1940 and they had four children, Judith Hale (Dennis), Richard Greene (Gail), David Greene and Susan Brown (David). Allens family also includes nine grandchildren and their spouses; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Before moving to Alabama in 2007 to be closer to family, Allen was a very active member of White Oak Baptist Church. For many, many years he sang in the choir and served as a deacon. When he was younger, he also played on their summer slow-pitch softball team. Allen, a U.S. Navy veteran, was a hard-working, honest, depression-era man who was frugal yet generous. He loved to travel throughout the USA and Europe and was known for planning his trips in detail. In his retirement years, he was rarely without fireballs in his shirt pocket and a smile on his face. Much to the surprise of his entire family, Allen took up line-dancing in his mid-80's which brought him joy. A service celebrating Allens life will be held at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. also at the funeral home.
