Orby Higdon

Orby L. Higdon, 76, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014. He was a lifelong resident of Higdon, Ala., a devoted husband of 57 years to Mrs. Ruth Gennette Farr Higdon originally of Albuquerque, N.M. They are loving parents of two daughters, Mrs Debra Lee Higdon Spangler, of Ringgold, Ga., Mrs. Karen Ann Higdon Hicks, of Daytona, Beach, Fla.; grandparents of two grandsons, Reid Miles and Nathan Miles; three granddaughters, Misty Hicks, Sonya Wade and Ashley Miles; great-grandparents of nine great-grandchildren. Orby graduated from Pisgah High School in 1955 then became a member of Special Forces for the United States Air Force from 1955 until 1959. He was saved on March 13, 1987, and later became an ordained Deacon and then became an ordained Baptist Minister and pastored Mt. Haven Baptist Church. He was currently a member of New Haven Baptist Church in Chattanooga. Orby was a dedicated employee, retiring from the teamsters union at Belfonte Nuclear Plant receiving several awards over the years of perfect work attendance. He has been a member of the Higdon Chapter of the Masonic Lodge since 1970, and is best described by his family as a dedicator and supporter. He loved Alabama Football, NASCAR and was an avid golfer and was a person that loved to tell stories and make people laugh and never seemed to meet a stranger. Orby was preceded in death by his father and mother, John Higdon and Vivian Kenemore Higdon; three brothers, Ralph, Lloyd and Gene Higdon; two sisters, Lola Mae Higdon Millican and Virginia Higdon Lacy, all of Higdon, Ala. Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Mrs. Ruth Gennette Farr Higdon, of Higdon; sister, Mrs. Opal Foster, of Smyrna, Tenn.; brother, Mr. Melvin Higdon, of Cocoa Beach, Fla. He will be very greatly missed, and from all of his family we just say thank you Orby for being a part of our lives, and thank you God for allowing us to have him for 76 years. Funeral services will be noon Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, in the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Brother Bill Broom officiating. Burial will follow in Higdon Cemetery with Military Honors.
