Jack Pinion

Jack Hamilton Pinion, 90, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014. The son of the late William J. Pinion and Edna S. Pinion was born on March 2, 1923. He was a Coast Guard Veteran of World War II. Mr. Pinion worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority, retiring in 1983. He has been an active member of the Chattanooga Valley Baptist Church, the St. Elmo Avenue Baptist Church, and most recently the Flintstone Baptist Church. He was an avid photographer and golfer, enjoyed the care of his home and yard, was a lifelong reader of classic literature, and spent his retirement developing his talent for painting and pen and ink drawings. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Martha Bruning Pinion and daughters Kathleen Whitley (Joe D.) and Constance Raji (Alexander D.). Grandchildren are Lauren J. Whitley of New Orleans, LA; Thomas M. Whitley of Atlanta, GA; and Daniel P. Raji and David M. Raji, both of Alpharetta, GA. He is also survived by nephew Paul (Kim) Cheney and niece Kay Cheney (Robert) Klose of Chattanooga. The family will receive friends at the Heritage Funeral Home in Ft. Oglethorpe between 3-7 p.m. today, Feb. 15. Services will be held in the funeral home Chapel at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, at Forest Hills Cemetery with the Rev. Donald Givens officiating. Pallbearers will be James Fricks, William Hicks, Edward Williams, Thomas Bruning, Walter Bruning, and Steven Bruning. Honorary pallbearers are Jack and Dan Cook, John Ransom, and the Mens Bible Classes of Chattanooga Valley and Flintstone Baptist Churches. The family suggests donations be made to the Hannah Bruning Scholarship c/o the Chattanooga Valley Baptist Church, 90 Nick-a-Jack Lane, Flintstone, GA 30725.
