Lily Wells

Lily Hamill Wells, 89, of Chattanooga, slipped softly away in the wee hours of Monday morning, Feb. 10, 2014, in the hospital, after just one day there. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fred J. Wells; her father, Charles John Hamill; and mother, May Waite-Hamill; her brother, George Hamill and sister-in-law, Marty, of Philadelphia; her sister, Mary Hamill Womack and brother-in-law, Walter, of Ooltewah; and her sister and brother-in-law, Nell Hamill Rogers and Earl, of Riverside, Calif. Before retirement, she was a secretary for many years at Combustion Engineering. She graduated from City High School and McKenzie Business College. After spending many years, including her wedding day, at beautiful Asbury Methodist Church, of late, she enjoyed attending chapel at her Hickory Valley Retirement Community. She appreciated the dear friendships and wonderful staff there. She is survived by her sister, Fran Hamill Jones, of Chattanooga, brother, John Patrick Hamill, Dothan, Ala.; and by many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom so enriched her life, especially nephews, Jimmy and David Burnette, whom she helped raise. Everyone will miss her sweet smile. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 16, in the Heritage Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Mike Lofton. Burial, beside her husband Fred, will be in Fort Hill Cemetery, Cleveland, Tenn., will follow the service. Visit www.heritagefh.com to share words of comfort to the family.
