Betty Garner

Betty Ruth King Garner, 81 years old, left this life on earth to begin her new life in Heaven on Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, her 58th wedding anniversary. She was born April 9, 1932 in Chattanooga. She grew up in the East Lake community and graduated from Chattanooga City High School. She was employed at Provident until 1960. She was a member of Clifton Hills United Methodist which joined Simpson United Methodist. Betty married Paul R. Garner in 1955. They had two children and she was later blessed with two grandchildren to whom she was devoted. She was an avid gardener and loved all kinds of flowers. She loved to cook and baking was her specialty. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was predeceased by her parents, Charles H. King Sr. and Gertrude Jamison King; and a brother, Charles H. King Jr. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Paul R. Garner; daughter, Paula (Gary) Tallant; son, Barry R. Garner; granddaughter, Alicia (Tim) Vines; grandson, Troy (Courtney) Tallant; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today, Jan. 2, 2014, at the funeral home with Rev. Mark Womack officiating and visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Chattanooga Memorial Park. Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist.
