Spencer Gay Sr.

Spencer James Gay Sr., 71, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, in a local hospital. He retired from U.S. Pipe and Foundry following 25 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Willie Eddie Gay and Mamie Barnett Pittard. Survivors include his wife, Ann Battle Gay; sons, Spencer (LaTasha) Gay Jr., Willie Gay, both of Chattanooga, Joseph (Venus) Robinson, of Atlanta, Orlandus (Danielle) Gay, of Chattanooga, Anthony (Annette) Moore, of Huntsville, Ala., and Roger McKelvin, of Chattanooga; daughters, Joyce Gay, of Chattanooga, Deborah Gay Chukka, of Acworth, Ga., LaNika Gay (Dondregus) Buchanan, of Douglasville, Ga., Tracy Gay (James) Smith, of Waycross, Ga., Vicky Gay, of Chattanooga, Lavern (Gregory) Martin, of Fort Oglethorpe, Patricia Rivers of Chattanooga, Sandra Battle, of Atlanta, and Gerri Hill of Chattanooga; 58 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth B. McConnell, of Chattanooga; brother-in-law, Cornell Eberhart, of Chattanooga; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; other relatives and friends. The body will lie-in-state after 12:30 p.m. today at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at noon Wednesday at Resurrected Baptist Church with Elder Eddie D. Jacks as the eulogist. Burial: Forest Hills Cemetery.
