Olavene McGinnis

Olavene Minton McGinnis joined the angels in Heaven on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014. She was 88. Ginnie, as she was known to many, was born and raised on Cagle Mountain but lived and raised her family in Red Bank for more than 60 years. She was a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church and worked in the nurseries of many local churches. She loved children and cared for them as if they were her own. Ginnie was the true picture of Christian love. She was kind and compassionate to everyone she met. She always made everyone feel welcome in her home and no one ever left hungry. She gave unselfishly; she loved unconditionally. Her beautiful smile gave only a hint of the love in her heart. She was preceded in death by her parents, Farris and Virgie Minton; and her husband, Claymon G. McGinnis. Survivors include two daughters, Martha (Danny) Ruehling, of Dayton, Tenn., and June (Ronnie) Elliott, of Red Bank; one son, Tim (Darline) McGinnis, of Hixson; sister, Minnie Moffat, of Cagle Mountain; special family friends, Brenda Basham and Gloria Brown; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and other loving family members. Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Lane Funeral Home, Coulter Chapel on Ashland Terrace with Dr. Danny Ruehling and Rev. Pat McKenna officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery on Cagle Mountain, Tenn., with Rev. Scottie Moffitt officiating. JC Basham, Darrell Clark, Andrew Daffron, Brian Daffron, Jimmy McMillian, Calvin Moffitt, Micah Ruehling and Stephen Ruehling will serve as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Creek Baptist Church, 1001 Mountain Creek Road, Chattanooga, TN 37415, or Amedisys Hospice, 7205 Lee Hwy, Suite A, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
