John Jordan

John L. Jordan, 81, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2014 in Chattanooga surrounded by his family. The son of the late John and Mable Northcutt Jordan, he was a US Army veteran of the Korean War and graduated and received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Tennessee State University. A member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, he was also a member of Cumberland Lodge #90 in South Pittsburg and the American Legion. He worked for many years as the Southeast Regional Program Director for the Health and Human Services Division of the US Government. He was preceded in death by his son, John L. Jordan, II; brother, Shellie R. Jordan; and sisters, Jewel Jordan Williams, Mable Jordan Rice, Gwendolyn Jordan Hill and Charman Jordan Humphrey. He is survived by his children, Kim (Buck) Bingham, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., David Jordan, Walter Jordan, of Nashville, Tenn., Susan Jordan Fondren, Cheryl Batey Collins, of Antioch, Tenn., Jia L. Jordan, of Atlanta, Ga., and Jewel Anne Jordan, of Decatur, Ga.; sister, Billie Anne Jordan Wylie, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; brother, Kenneth U. Jordan, of Las Vegas, Nev.; cousins, Julia White and Mary Jo Lankford; fifteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted from the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home at Noon on Monday, Jan. 13, 2014 with Reverend Shellie Rossini Jordan II officiating. Interment will follow at Cumberland View Cemetery in Kimball, TN. The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until service time on Monday.
