Bettye Johnson

Bettye M. Johnson, of Hixson, departed her earthly home and entered her heavenly home on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014. She was 84 years old. Bettye was born and raised in Chattanooga and was a graduate of Chattanooga City High School. She attended McKenzie Business College. Bettyes first job was at DuPont where she met and married the love of her life and she also worked for the Welcome Wagon. She was a faithful and longtime member of Red Bank Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Roy McCrary and mother, Ina Ballew. Bettye is survived by her husband of 63 years, A. B. "Ben" Johnson; two sons and daughters-in-law, William "Bill" (Carol) Johnson of Rossville and Greg (Joyce) Johnson of Hixson; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and 2-3 p.m. on Wednesday Jan. 22, at the North Chapel. Services for Bettye will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, at the funeral home chapel with Reverend Forrest Prosser officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. The family would like to express their gratitude to Hospice of Chattanooga, their nurses and caregivers, Amy, Shauna, Faedra and all the sitters for the love and care given to Bettye during her illness.
