Dorothy Stone

Dorothy Eleanor Brogdon Stone, 80, passed away Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014. She was born in Lyerly, Ga., to Louis Bert and Hettie Ferrell Brogdon. She graduated from Summerville High School where she was Valedictorian. She attended West Georgia College and graduated from the University of Chattanooga with a Medical Technologist degree. She worked at Tri-County Hospital, Teppers Clinic, Metropolitan Hospital, Associates in Internal Medicine, Urology Clinic and Erlanger. Miss Dot loved and served the Lord. She was choir director for Lyerly First Baptist Church, and organist and member of Fort Oglethorpe First Baptist for over 30 years. She amazed and entertained countless wedding reception guests by playing her marimba with four mallets. Her legendary pound cake was a staple at potluck dinners and Keenager luncheons. There was never a crumb leftover! She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Edwin Marion Stone; and sister, Ann Edleson. Survivors are son, Kevin (Debra) Stone, Ringgold; granddaughters, Brittany and Jennifer; great-granddaughter, Braylee; niece, Judi Wilcher; nephews, Chip Edleson, David Edleson; great-nephews, Bryant Edleson, Brandon Smith; great-nieces, Lauren Powell, Kristy Beam; great-great-nieces, Camille, Chandler and Madison; and her tea cup poodle, Topsy. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Fort Oglethorpe First Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Thomas officiating. Interment will be in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.
