Betty Ramsey

Betty Carolyn Smith Ramsey, 80, a recent resident of Ooltewah and longtime resident of Albany, Ga., died Saturday, July 5, 2014. Born on April 1, 1934 in Thomasville, Ga., she was the executive secretary to a number of superintendents of Dougherty County schools. An accomplished watercolorist, seamstress, and gardener, Betty created beauty that she enjoyed sharing with others. She was a devoted member of the Albany SDA Church, serving as an Elder and as a teacher. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alex Joseph Smith and Thelma Sherman Smith, as well as a brother, John A. Smith. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, James Redding Ramsey Jr.; daughter, Ronda (Jim) Foster, of Ooltewah; grandchildren, Caitlin and Lindsay Foster, of Ooltewah; sisters, Sara Quick, of Fletcher, N.C., and Sharon (L.W.) Willis, of Bainbridge, Ga.; brother, Harold (Rosa) Smith, of Hendersonville, N.C.; and many beloved relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at the Albany Community Seventh-day Adventist Church, 381 Fussell Road, Leesburg, Ga., with her nephew, Clay Ramsey officiating. Interment will be at Chattanooga National Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2014.
