Cassandra Tanner

Cassandra Rucker Stewart Tanner, 55, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2014, in Chattanooga. She attended Chattanooga High School and graduated from Nurnberg American High School in Germany. Cassandra also attended the University of Louisville in Kentucky. She was formerly employed at SunTrust Bank (formerly American National Bank and Trust) and was the owner of Quality Learning Center. Cassandra was a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority and was the First Lady of Piney Woods Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Anna Rose Miles Stewart, Earskin Stewart and Stanley Irvin Rucker; grandparents, Sallie Mae and Clemon Miles and Ervin G. Rucker. Survivors include her husband, Rev. Dr. Ernest Tanner; children, Nicholas R. Tanner and Miles E. Tanner; grandmother, Anita Cunningham; siblings, Derrick Stewart, Stanley Rucker Jr., Aldric Pace and Moneka Norwood; other relatives and friends. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2014, at New Horizon Baptist Church, located at 2007 East 27th St. with Rev. Dr. Willie Paul officiating. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery. The body will lie in state after noon today and the family will receive friends from 67 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
