Johnny Harris

Johnny H. "Papaw" Harris, 72, of Harrison, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 3, 2014. He was a member of Gamble Road Baptist Church. In his early years he was a truck driver and then a dispatcher for Salem Carpet Mills in Ringgold, Ga. After his trucking days, papaw worked for the Hamilton County Sheriffs Department where he worked in the jail as a corrections officer and then moved to the courts building as a court officer. He retired from the Sheriffs Department in 2011 after 23 years of service. Papaw was also a longstanding member of the Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department and enjoyed the first Saturday Bluegrass and Barbeque. He was the son of the late Charles and Eva Harris. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Judy F. Harris; four children, Mike (Pam) Harris, Cleveland, Tenn., Sandi Mitchell, Summerville, Ga, Burle Leamon, Dayton, Tenn., and Cheri (Paul) Denton, Harrison; six grandchildren, Amanada Edwards, Eric Mitchell, Lynn Leamon, Brandi Buckner, Holly Leamon, and Jake Denton; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Charles R. (Dorothy) Harris, Jr., Harrison; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Hospice of Chattanooga for all of their care and kindness for our precious Papaw Harris. Especially nurse Christy and CNA Leah. We would also like to say thank you to special neighbors Keith and Amanda Myers for all their help during Papaws Illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Valley View Chapel with the Rev. Lloyd Harvell and the Rev. Gurney Beard officiating. Interment will be in Holder Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department, 5402 Highway 58, Chattanooga, TN 37416.
