Irene Barnes

Irene Butler Barnes passed away early Friday, June 13, 2014. She has reunited with her parents, Berry and Bertha Butler; her husband, Floyd and her beloved son, Thomas; her brother, Robert, her sister, Maude; and her nephew Cecil Fox. She is survived by her daughter, Sanda Barnes (Fred) Mohr; grandsons, Alex and Erick (Sara); three beautiful granddaughters, Sky, Miya and Roane; nieces, Wanda Fox, Kathy (Art) Higley, Doris Butler and Phyllis Butler Hartman. Irene was the first in her family to graduate from Chattanooga Central High School and then attended Edmondson's Business College. She became secretary for Lamont Johnston, Chattanooga patent attorney. She was secretary for the Tennessee Highway Patrol for many years and then left to work for the Tennessee Valley Authority, retiring at 65. She continued to work part time for TVA for several years. She was an avid gardener and an even more avid collector of all things. She could not pass a yard sale and not stop. The family would like to thank Wellington Place Assisted Living for their care. We would also like to thank Hospice who are really angels on earth, especially Cheree, Faedra, Elizabeth and Eleanor. Thanks also to Miki Shumate. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 16 at Lane Funeral Home with Rev. Everett Gossett officiating. Interment will follow in Boydston Cemetery. Visit www.lanefh.com to share condolences.
