Thomas Maxwell

Thomas Ernest "Tom" Maxwell, 75, departed this earth to a better land on Thursday, June 12, 2014. He was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga Valley and attended Wauhatchie United Methodist Church. He proudly served his country as a United States Marine and was a former partner and retired from Burnette & Associates as a structural engineer after more than 30 years of service. Tom was a wonderful husband, dad, granddad, uncle, friend and the best big brother anyone could ever have. A wise and honorable man, Tom was also an avid sportsman, whether it be with a gun, a bow or a rod and reel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Frances Maxwell; wife, Rita Davis Maxwell; sister, Martha Holcomb and three infant sisters. Survivors include his faithful and loving wife, Carol Thompson Maxwell, of Chickamauga; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and (Tonya) Davis, of Chickamauga; daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and (Eddie) Baker and Vonda and (Mike) Patrick, all of Chattanooga; brother and sister-in-law, Emory and (Martha) Maxwell, of Fort Oglethorpe; sisters and brother-in-law, Emily and (Ellis) Chasteen, of Fort Oglethorpe, Frances Maxwell and Bengie VanWinkle, both of Flintstone and Judi Bevil, of LaVergne, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Brad (Meredith) Baker, Brittany (James) Palmer and Matthew Patrick; four great-grandchildren, Olivia Torbett, Liam Baker, Savannah and Ayrton Palmer; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2014, in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel with Pastor Willard T. "Bill" Akers III and Rev. Bryan Maxwell officiating. Burial will follow in Chickamauga City Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home. Online guest book at www.wilsonfuneralhome.com.
