Joseph Hodges

Rev. Joseph Hodges Rev. Joseph C. Hodges, 84, of Hixson, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at his home. He was a well-known retired minister in the Church of God where he was an ordained bishop since 1947. He pastored numerous churches in several states, was a former state youth director in Michigan and conducted many revivals in foreign countries. At the time of his death he was attending Chattanooga Community Church of God in Hixson. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lena Tucker Hodges; first wife, Bessie Helen Hodges who passed away in 1998; and two brothers, David and Vernon Hodges. Survivors include his second wife, Sara Ruth Goodman Hodges, of Hixson; children, Linda Lockwood, of Chattanooga and Larry Hodges and wife, Debbie, of Ooltewah; four grandchildren, Dustin Lockwood, Darcie Bryant, Jason Hodges and Jared Hodges, all of Chattanooga; four great-grandchildren, Priscilla Hodges, Skyler Hodges, Darina Bryant and Delanie Bryant; sisters, Frances Wilson, of Rocky Mount, N.C., and Geraldine Ray, of Keystone Heights, Fla.; brother, James Hodges; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. today, March 21, 2014, in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Dr. Donald M. Walker, overseer of the state of Tennessee officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
