Lois Blakemore

Lois Lucille Robinson Blakemore, 91, of Chattanooga, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 17, 2014. She was born in Chattanooga on Aug. 2, 1922 and was the twin to Camille "Bim" Robinson and the sixth of seven children born to the late Walter C. Robinson Sr. and Cora B. Adair Robinson. Lois was educated in the public schools of Chattanooga and graduated from Howard High School in 1940. She matriculated at Tennessee A&I State University and graduated with a B.S. Degree in Education in 1944. She met her life partner, Donnell Homer Blakemore in Chattanooga and they were united in holy matrimony on Dec. 31, 1953. After marriage they moved to the state of Michigan and Lois taught Kindergarten in Inkster, Mich. and received many awards for her teaching excellence. She retired from teaching after 31 years of service in the public schools of Detroit Michigan. Lois faith in God was always first place in her life. While in Detroit she and her husband continued to serve the Lord by joining the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church. She served on the Usher Board, Deaconess Board and was a member of the Missionary Union Ministry. They were happily married for 46 years until his death in 1999. After her husbands death, she moved back to Chattanooga to be near her twin sister and other family. Shortly after moving back, she re-united with her home church, Second Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as a member of the Missionary Union Ministry, T.W. Adair Club #15 and Family Ministry Team Number One. Lois was always ready to sacrifice and give support to others. She enjoyed social gatherings, family dinners and gospel music. "I Wont Complain" was one of her favorite songs. Lois was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Jessal Robinson, Marian R. Robinson, Alma R. Poole and many cousins and in-laws. Survivors include: twin sister, Camille D. Robinson; eldest sister Evelyn R. Hardin, Chattanooga; brother, Walter C. Robinson, Jr. and sister-in- law, Lily T. Robinson, Cleveland, Miss.; niece, Dr. Sandra H. Clark, Chattanooga; nephew Harris (Freida) Robinson Sr., Nashville; cousins Kay (Ellis) Little, Los Angeles, Calif.; Eula Mae Clay; Ruby (Charles) Key; Gloria Glenn; Pam (Leon) Grimes, Chattanooga; great-nephews, Chester (Nineveh) Clark, M.D., Horsham, Pa.: Carlos (Amanda) Clark, Esq., Windermere, Fla.; Harris A. Robinson, Jr., Frederick D. Robinson, Nashville; and great niece Francheska Robinson, Nashville; Godson Ronnie Brown, Detroit, Mich.; and lifelong friends, Mattie Sue Depee, Jimmie Pearl Walton, Beatrice McCleary, Carrie Mae Ashmore, Barbara (Wilbur) Roberts and an abundance other loving relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at the Second Missionary Baptist Church, 2305 E. Third Street with Pastor Paul A. McDaniel officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. The body will lie in state after noon today and the family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. this evening at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
