Tommy Owens

Tommy Owens, 73, of Chickamauga passed away Monday, March 24, 2014 at his residence. He was a native of Scottsboro, AL and had lived most of his life in the Chickamauga area. Mr. Owens was a United States Marine Corps veteran and was a member of the American Legion Post 214. He was a plant manager for many years for Seaboard Farms and Zartic Foods. Mr. Owens coached baseball, softball, and football in the Chickamauga Recreation League when his children were growing up. His passions in life was shooting pool, riding motorcycles, collecting guns and knives, and playing the harmonica. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Nellie Owens; sister, Norvell "Sis" Franklin; and two brothers, Rayford and Laverne Owens. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Barbara Owens; four children, Greg Owens of Chattanooga, Tommy Laray Owens of Chattanooga, Brian (Kari) Owens of Ringgold, and Tonya Missie Blue Owens (Michael Barbare) of Chickamauga; sister, Pat Bennett of Trenton; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Condolences may be sent to www.lane-southcrestchapel.com. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30p.m. in the South Crest Chapel. Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends today from 4-8 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, located at the end of Historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
