Richard Simmons

Richard Simmons, 73, passed from this life on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Emerald-Hodgson Skilled Care in Sewanee, Tenn. He was born Feb. 10, 1941 in Sherwood; the son of the late Richard and Christine Shetters Simmons. He was a truck driver and a member of the Monteagle Church of Christ. He loved fishing whenever he had the opportunity. Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Marie Coker Simmons; infant son, Richard Glenn Simmons; and brother, Joe Allen Simmons. Surviving are wife, Willie Mae "Cookie" Caldwell Simmons; sons, Archie Simmons of Sewanee, TN and William Martin Simmons, of Sewanee, Tenn.; stepson, Brian Caldwell, of Chattanooga; brother, Charles (Ruth) Simmons, of Monteagle, Tenn.; sisters, Annie (Buddy) Hoosier, of Sewanee, Tenn., Margie Hendrix, of Monteagle, Tenn., Janet (Raymond) Releford, of Monteagle, Tenn., Janie (Tom) Melton, of Tracy City, Tenn., and Alene (David) Grogan, of Gainesville, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014 in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with Brother Paul Tittle officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Buddy Hoosier, Tom Melton, Raymond Releford, Jackie Ladd, Baker Walker and Jim Hardison. Interment will follow in Mt. View Cemetery, Sherwood, Tenn.
