Jim Roberts

James L. "Jim" Roberts, 77, of Soddy-Daisy, passed away Friday, May 2, 2014. He was born February 10, 1937 to the late Roy T. and Beatrice Holmes Roberts. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Billie Ruth Roberts Tait. Jim was a 1955 graduate of Soddy-Daisy High School; he earned a B.A. in 1960 at Carson Newman College and a M.A. from Middle Tennessee State University in 1964. After college, he was a teacher and coach with the Hamilton County Department of Education for 37 years. He was a member of the CHCRTA, TEA and the NEA. Jim was a member of the First Baptist Church Soddy-Daisy where he was ordained as a Deacon. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Elsie Carlyle Roberts; son, Roy L. Roberts, both of Soddy-Daisy; sister, Louise Howell, of Rossville, Ga.; nephews, Drs. David and Becca Tait; Andrew Tait and Charlie Tait of Charlotte, N.C. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2014, at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home, with Dr. Seton Tomyn and Rev. Ted Painter officiating. Burial will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park. Visitation is 3 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Josh McCullar, Jacob McCullar, Kelly Gibbs, Tommie Burton, Wendell Goff and Don Myers; honorary pallbearers will be Will Taylor and Elijah Morgan.
