Katherine Prater

Katherine Regina Prater, 54, passed away on Wednesday May 7, 2014 in Chattanooga. She was a 1978 graduate of Brainerd High School and a 1982 graduate of Tennessee State University. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie J. and Eddie Mae Miller; Mother-in-law, Mildred Prater; and grandparents Straughter and Louise Hendrix. Kathy leaves behind to celebrate her life and cherish her memories beloved husband, Michael Prater Sr.; loving son and daughter Michael Prater Jr. and Nicole Prater; Grandchildren, Michaela, Jaelyn, Kellie, Caden and Alyssa; Great-granddaughter, Elaina; God-daughter, Robin Kilby; Brother, Charles (Carolyn) Miller; nephew, Christopher Miller; niece, Charlyn Miller; great nephew, Jonathan Smith Jr., of Chattanooga; In-Laws, Terry (James) Calhoun, Herman (Lawanda) Prater, Andrea Prater, of Chattanooga; Dwight (Loretta) Prater, Cape Girardeau, Mo., Marion (Barbara) Prater, Las Vegas, Nev.; and a host of cousins, family and friends. Special friends include Linda Height, Mary Ann Morton, Viola Douthit, the Sorors of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and the OBC Usher Ministry. The Home-Going Celebration will be at 12 p.m., on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at the Olivet Baptist Church, Pastor Kevin L. Adams Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at Beautiful Greenwood Cemetery. The body will lie in state on today after 12 p.m. and the family will receive visitors in the chapel from 6-7 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
