Elbert Whitt

Elbert C. Whitt, 78, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014. A native of Pulaski, Va., he has been a resident of the Chattanooga area for the past 50 years. After graduation from Pulaski High School where he starred in all sports, he played professional baseball for Baltimore and Philadelphia farm clubs. He was retired as Plant Engineer & superintendent of maintenance at Gateway Hosiery Mill and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Caroline Keith; and two brothers Wilmer and John Whitt. Survivors include his wife, Juanita C. Whitt; two sons, David (Charlene) Whitt, Mark (Amy) Whitt, all of Hixson; daughter, Kathy (James) Harvey, Chattanooga; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eveland Martin and Velva Lee Branscome. An informal gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday at the Valley View Chapel.
