Barbara Holley

Barbara Mathews "Snooks" Holley, of Lookout Mountain, died on Friday, May 23, 2014. She was born in Baltimore, Md., moved to Atlanta as a young girl then came to Lookout Mountain where she graduated from GPS, then Sweetbriar College in 1954. Snooks was a longtime member of Church of the Good Shepherd. She was an active member of the Junior League and tireless volunteer in the community. In her later years, she had a great interest in and volunteered at the Metropolitan Ministry. She was very competitive and loved playing tennis, bridge and watching sports. Most of all, she loved her children and grandchildren; and enjoyed her many friends. Barbara was preceded in death by husband of 56 years, J. Kyle Holley Jr.; and her parents, Ray and Hazel Mathews. She is survived by her four children: son, Tad (Alice) Holley; daughters, Susu Scissom, Babs (Mark) Stephens, Tina (Buddy) Webster; grandchildren, Mary Alice and Kyle Holley, Taylor Stokoe, Holley and Miles Stephens and Rob and Mathews Webster; her sister, Marion Harris; and beloved dog, Sugar. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, in the fellowship hall of the Church of the Good Shepherd, 211 Franklin Road, Lookout Mountain. Services will follow at 4 p.m. A private interment will be after the service in the Harriet Caldwell Memorial Garden at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Metropolitan Ministries, Hospice or the charity of your choice.
