Jo Anna Hickman

Jo Anna Patrick Hickman, 65, formerly of Fort Oglethorpe, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2014 from injuries sustained in an accident. She was a native of Fort Oglethorpe, was a 1967 graduate of Lakeview High School, attended Fort Oglethorpe First Baptist Church and was employed with Miller Brothers. In 1971, Jo Anna moved to Milledgeville, Ga. and became a teacher's aide with the Baldwin County School System for 13 years and attended Salem Baptist Church. In 1992, she returned to Ringgold, Ga. and began employment with the United Way and attended Burning Bush Baptist Church. Following a move to Augusta, Ga. in 1997, she became a member of the Lumpkin Road Baptist Church where she served as secretary for over 10 years, nursery organizer and served as Awana Grandparents leader. Jo Anna organized meals for church activities and funerals, sang in the choir and ministered with special music. Following her retirement, she did financial reports for offerings, served on the secretary outreach team and visited with the community. Jo Anna truly loved everyone and while serving as liaison for missionaries, she touched many lives throughout the world. She was a member of the Ambassador's Club where she wrote a newsletter each month. Her passions in life were God, church family, serving, and cooking. Jo Ann also served as president of the Davis Family Reunion in Orangeburg, S.C. She was preceded in death by her mother and step-father, Terry "Nana" and Jim "Pop" Williams and her father, Joel Patrick. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 46 years, Johnny Hickman; children, Chad Hickman, Ringgold, Ga., and Shannon Hickman Smith (Chris), of Calhoun, Ga.; grandchildren, Jacob Hickman, Sinjin Smith, Jackson Smith, Rachel Hickman, and Kelly Smith; brothers, Mike (Kathy) Patrick, Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., and Denny (Susan) Patrick, Rock Spring, Ga.; step-brother, Jim Williams, Fort Oglethorpe; step-sisters, Carla Edmondson, East Ridge, Tenn., and Tracy Russell, Fredricksburg, Va.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the South Crest Chapel with the Rev. Larry Partain, the Rev. Don Stone, the Rev. Denny Patrick officiating.
