Chip Cummings

Gary "Chip" Cummings Jr., 42, of Chattanooga, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, after a long illness. Chip was born on March 8, 1972, and was a standout athlete, graduating from Gordon Lee High School, class of 1990, and earned an athletic scholarship to Tennessee Wesleyan College. He was known for his kindness, gentleness and especially his love for animals. Chip was a devoted, life-long fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves and Falcons. He enjoyed playing football with his nephews. Chip was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James C. and Edith S. Hawkins of Chattanooga; paternal grandparents, Oren F. Cummings and Mildred Fryar, and his uncle, Gregory Cummings. Left to cherish his memory are his father, Gary Cummings Sr.; mother and stepfather, Sue (Mark) Robinson; sisters, Karen (Robert) Tinsley, Carrie Warren and Ash (Julio) Robinson; brother, Chad (Megan) Robinson. He also leaves many loving aunts, uncles, cousins as well as his beloved niece and nephews, Cade, Caroline, Luka and Mac. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mark Flynn officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Chip's name to the McKamey Animal Center, (mckameyanimalcenter.org), 4500 N. Access Road, Chattanooga, TN 37415.
