Shirley Black

Shirley Elizabeth Black passed away at her residence on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014. She was born on Oct. 13, 1944, in Louisville, Ky., to Estill Lamar Chism and Anita Leverne (Penick) Chism. Shirley loved to crochet and knit. She loved to help people. She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Black, and her parents, Estill and Anita Chism. She is survived by one daughter, Darlene (David) Cartwright, and five sisters that include, Mary Lou (Jackie) Hunter, Dorothy (Jerry) House, Beulah (Alfred) Redden, Jeannie Dickens and Patricia (Danny) Saltsman. She also leaves behind one granddaughter, Lena Shiloh Cartwright. Visitation will be held at Heritage Funeral Home Battlefield Parkway from 4-8 p.m. today, Sept. 1. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Heritage Funeral Home Battlefield Parkway, followed by burial at Tennessee-Georgia Cemetery. For those wishing to give memorial donations, please give to the American Heart Association.
