Stanley Williams

Stanley Darwin Williams, 72, passed away on Friday, Sept. 20, 2014, at home. He was born on March 23, 1942. He was a graduate of Hixson High School where he was President of his senior class, President of the Key Club, and captain of the basketball team. He was a member of the 1960 City-County All-Star football team. He attended the University of Tennessee- Knoxville and the University of Chattanooga. He was a graduate of the Marine Institute of Technology, Baltimore, Md., and a graduate of the Texas A&M LNG/Industrial Fire School. He worked early in his career at Farmers Chemical and Velsicol Chemical. He was plant manager for Chattanooga Gas LNG Plant. He retired from El Paso Corporation LNG Terminal in Savannah, Ga. After retiring, he worked as a consultant on commissioning and training of LNG personnel at terminals in Cove Point, Md.; Lake Charles, La.; and Pascagoula, Miss. Stanley belonged to Hixson Masonic Lodge 727, Chattanooga Scottish Rite, and Alhambra Shrine. He served as Director General of Shrine Clubs, captain of the Alhambra Drum and Bugle Corps, captain of the Alhambra Clown Unit, President of Southeast Shrine Drum and Bugle Corp. Association. He loved being in Shrine parades putting a piece of candy in small hands. He was the Number One Tramp Clown in the Southeast Clown Association in 1988, and in 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bufred Williams and Marie Patton Williams; and maternal grandparents, Dr. W.D. and Bertha Patton, Wallace and Gertrude Williams. Stanley is survived by his best friend and wife of 52 years, Daphna Raulston Williams; son, Mark (Robin) Williams; adored grandsons, Zachari and Benjamin Williams; sister, Carla (Chuck) Creigh; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home chapel with Bishop Wallace Angel officiating. Interment will follow in Dividing Ridge Cemetery.
