Joe Bailey

Joe E. Bailey passed away on Aug. 13, 2015, in Hixson, at the age of 75. Joe is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judy C. Bailey; Children, Jacinda (Daniel) Woodward, Jennifer Wheeler and Jonathan (Michelle) Bailey; grandchildren, Rebekah Wheeler, Katie Wheeler, Elizabeth Wheeler, Taylor Woodward, Jacob Bailey, Sarah Kate Bailey, Caroline Bailey and Erica Woodward; Siblings, Barbara Guisler, Joyce (Jim) Slough, Henry (Sally) Bailey, and Betty (Joe) Durham. He was preceded in death by parents, Henry Amos and Sarah Verna Bailey, of Akron, Ala. Joe was born in his childhood home in Akron, Ala., on July 2, 1940. He graduated from Auburn University in 1963 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He married Judy, whom he met while Co-Opping in Pensacola, Fla., and they settled in Chattanooga in 1964 where Joe, who was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, worked for DuPont for over 40 years. Joe is a member of Red Bank Baptist Church. Joe worked hard to provide for his family, teaching them the value of persistence and hard work. He also enjoyed traveling and took his children and grandchildren on many cross-country camping trips saying that he always liked to see something he had never seen before. Once his children were grown, Joe and Judy continued to travel and enjoyed seeing sights in many countries around the world. A few of his favorite activities included sitting on the front porch of his childhood home while drinking a morning cup of coffee, going on daily walks, sitting on the dock and spending time with his family. Visitation with family is scheduled for today, Aug. 16, from 5-8 p.m. and prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m on Monday. A celebration of Joes life is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 17 at 10:30 a.m. at the Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel, located at 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, with Rev. Bill Harvey and Rev. Bert Jones officiating. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of America or The Red Bank Baptist Church building fund.
