Ruth Miller

Ruth Elizabeth Miller, 94, passed away Aug. 6, 2015, in Chattanooga, just 18 days before her 95th birthday. She was born in Missouri on Aug. 25, 1920, and moved to Brighton when she was 3 years old where she resided for the next 86 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Brighton. Her father and older brother each served respectively as city councilman and mayor of Brighton. She married Raymond G. Miller on Nov. 6, 1940. They owned the Derby Market for five years until Ray became postmaster of Brighton and served in that position for 22 years. They had two daughters, Ruthanne and Beth. Ruth was a loving and caring homemaker to her family and later worked for a few years in the bookkeeping department of Brighton High School. Ruth cared for Ray in his illness from 2005 until they moved to their daughters home in Tennessee where Ray passed away in 2009, shortly after they celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Beth, in 2012. Survivors include daughter, Ruthanne (Randy) Perkins; grandchildren, Bryce (Cheri) Perkins, Scott (Heather) Perkins, Anne (Brian Hediger) Mosback, Mark Mosbach; and six great-grandchildren, Cody, Ashley, Raymond Bryce, Corynn, Gretchyn and Milo. A private family service will be held at a future date when Ruth will be brought back to Brighton for burial. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ruth Millers name to Wolftever Elementary School with a designation to the DCC Classroom (Developmental Communication Classroom) which is for non-verbal autistic children. The address is 5080 Ooltewah-Ringgold Road, Ooltewah, TN 37363. They request that on the memo line of the check it should state in memory of Ruth Miller for DCC.
