Harold West

Harold West SOUTH PITTSBURG Gunnery Sergeant Harold Benjamin West, USMC (retired), passed away Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, aat the age of 86. Born on March 18, 1928, in Kansas City, Mo., to the late Frank Clinton and Carrie Flowers West, he was a graduate of Jones College Business School in Orlando, Fla., and a beloved member of Battle Creek Baptist Church. He served his country for 23 years, first as a Merchant Marine, then through multiple enlistments with the US Marine Corps. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Frank West and sister, Margaret Cox. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis West of South Pittsburg; three children, Robert West of Jasper, Tenn., Debra West and Frank West both of South Pittsburg; grandchildren, Jonathan, Rachel, Amber and Frankie; great-granddaughter, Jodi Leigh; several nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services with military honors will be conducted at the Chattanooga National Cemetery on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. CST (11:30 Eastern). The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, from 6-8 p.m. CST at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg.
