Maleta Barquist

Maleta Fanny Barquist, 92, of Olds and Wayland, Iowa died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, at Henry County Health Center. The daughter of Henry and Lenora Boshart Yoder, she was born March 25, 1922 near Wayland. On March 6, 1954, she married Lawrence Barquist at Kahoka, Mo.; He died July 3, 1978. Maleta spent her entire life serving her Lord and helping others. Maleta was an active member of the Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church. She enjoyed her large gardens, flowers, quilting, preparing meals and spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include: one daughter, Rachelle Brecht of Lisbon, Iowa; one son, Dan Barquist, of Soddy-Daisy; six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Larry and two sisters. Interment was in at Swedesburg Church Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Swedesburg Lutheran Church or Parkview Home in Wayland. A Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan 18, at Midway Baptist Church, 1119 Lee Pike, Soddy-Daisy, with Rev. Grant Blaylock officiating.
