Rosalyn Humphrey

Rosalyn Jengo Humphrey, 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015. She was of the Catholic faith. Born in Detriot, Mich., June 17, 1930, she lived through the Great Depression and the Second World War. She is a first-generation American, as both her parents migrated to the United States to Ellis Island from Sicily, Italy. She studied at Wayne State University, in Detroit, Mich., where she earned an Associates degree, specializing in Histology. She found work in the laboratory at Beaumont Hospital preparing slides used for microscopic diagnosis of disease. On Nov. 2, 1957, Rosalyn married George William "Bill" Humphrey. They later adopted two children, William "Bill" Humphrey, in Indiana in 1963 and Kathryn "Katie" Cain, in Hixson in 1965. Rosalyn was beyond a homemaker with her excellent cooking skills, sewing clothes for her family and keeping a spotless home. She was extremely intelligent with a vast vocabulary and quick wit. She was a selfless woman who committed her life to her family by moving from her home state after 42 years. She supported the family during several more moves until her husbands retirement in 1990. They settled in Loudon, Tenn., in Tellico Village, for the next 21 years. They made many life-long friendships everywhere they lived. As their health began to decline, they moved to Hixson to be closer to family. Rosalyn touched many lives in more ways than she could have ever imagined. She was sweet, kind and caring with a slice of mischief. She put a smile on everyones face. Rosalyn had taken an active part in a world that changed dramatically over the years. She was a productive student, worker, friend, wife and mother. She will truly be missed. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Humphrey; parents, Sam and Katherine Jengo; and brother-in-law, Louis Lane. She is survived by her two children, Bill (Jeanne) Humphrey and Katie (Scott) Cain; sister, Nina Lane; several grandchildren, Kennedy, Mark, Dan and Becky Humphrey and Benjamin Cain; and several nieces and nephews. The family will gather with friends at the funeral home on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, beginning at 1 p.m. A memorial service will follow 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jym Hitte officiating. A private burial will be held in Chattanooga National Cemetery. Flowers, condolences and memories may be shared with the family by visiting www.HamiltonFuneralOptions.com.
