Violent weekend continues as police respond to person with gunshot wound at CHI Memorial

UPDATE at 9:35 p.m.: The victim was identified as Kendric Evans, 20, but he did not identify the suspect or how he got to the hospital.

Police determined the shooting took place in the 1800 block of South Lyerly Street.

The shooting remains under investigation.

The victim suffered a non-life threatening wound, according to a police spokesman.

Officers were called to CHI Memorial hospital when the "person shot" call came through dispatch at 5:09.

The shooting happened elsewhere, but police could not immediately confirm where, or provide additional information about the incident.

Several police cars lined the entrance to the hospital's emergency room in the minutes following the call.

The incident followed a morning altercation that left one person with a gunshot wound at the 2700 block of Sixth Avenue Court.

The weekend was violent in Chattanooga after a gang leader was killed Friday night.
